Collagen PIN micro-needling is a breakthrough treatment in skin resurfacing. It is based on the use of rapidly vibrating tiny needles to create micro-channels in the skin, a process that stimulates your skin’s natural ability to heal itself without the use of chemicals or surgery. The small channels in the epidermis close very quickly and the skin’s healing process increases production of collagen and elastin, two proteins that are essential in keeping the skin soft, resilient, and toned. This results in a thicker dermis and softened wrinkles or scars. Additionally, while the micro-channels are open during the treatment, allowing therapeutic creams and serums to be absorbed deep into the skin.
Micro-needling is commonly used to rejuvenate overall skin tone and texture, and to treat acne scarring, other face and body scars, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, and pigmentation resulting from sun damage and aging. The most frequent requested areas for micro-needling treatment are the face, neck, chest, and arms.
Why has Micro-Needling become so popular?
Because micro-needling relies on a natural biological process, it causes far less trauma to the skin than dermal rolling and other ablative treatments, and it can be safely used on all skin tones. This is especially important for people with darker skin, who are at greater risk for burning and skin discoloration from most chemical peel and laser treatments.
The cost for micro-needling treatments is reasonable, it can be used on any part of the body, and it does not require any special preparation or downtime.
What can I expect from a Collagen PIN procedure?
Dr. Faludi will first apply a numbing cream, followed by a cleansing and application of hyaluronic acid serum. Then he will begin to gently pass the collagen pin with tiny vibrating needles over your treatment area for a total of 10-15 minutes. Once the procedure is complete, he will again apply the hyaluronic acid serum and provide you with a kit of special skincare products to use for the next 3 days. For several hours following the procedure, your skin will look and feel as though you have a mild sunburn. You may begin wearing makeup on the treatment area the following day – mineral based foundation is recommended for the first week because it prevents bacterial growth.
Do the treatments hurt?
This is an excellent question! With the numbing cream, most patients report little to no sensation during the procedure. Some describe feeling as though a cat’s tongue is moving over their skin.
How is the Collagen PIN different from dermal rollers?
The Collagen PIN has several important technological improvements over dermal rollers, which were the previous generation of needling devices. With the Collagen PIN, the clinician is able to adjust the needle penetration depth throughout the procedure. This is important because skin thickness varies widely in different areas of the face and body. Additionally, the needles are used for only a single treatment, which means that they are cleaner and sharper than those on a dermal roller, which are used for multiple treatments. Finally, the small area of the needling surface, its vertical action, and rapid vibration allow for greater precision and significantly less damage to the epidermis than dermal rolling.
Dr. Faludi takes all new patients through a thorough complimentary consultation to discuss their aesthetic goals and design individual treatment plans. Additionally, he personally performs all procedures at the Aesthetic Medical Center.
